Where my people at?

This research prompt finds your prospects beyond email and LinkedIn.

Difficulty: Easy | Impact: More leads | Read Time: 1 min

Before:

You're fishing in the same overcrowded pond as every desperate salesperson - email inboxes and LinkedIn feeds.

Your prospects are drowning in generic "hope you are well" messages while your response rates tank.

Meanwhile, they're engaged in communities and forums where nobody's bothering to look.

After:

You've got the inside track on where your prospects actually hang out.

You're meeting them where they're passionate, engaged and genuinely want to learn.

Your outreach feels natural because you're already part of their world.

The Workflow:

  1. Identify your ideal prospect profile (role, company size, industry, geography)

  2. Fire the below prompt into ChatGPT, making sure to select ‘Run deep research’:

I'm researching where [ROLE] at [COMPANY TYPE/SIZE] spend time so I can engage them more effectively. They typically [KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/CHALLENGES].

I want to go beyond just email and LinkedIn. Help me identify other relevant places where they might already be active or consuming content, such as:
* Online communities (Slack groups, Reddit threads, Discord servers, Facebook Groups)
* Niche forums or industry-specific websites
* Newsletters they read
* Podcasts they listen to
* Events they attend (virtual or physical)
* Webinars or training platforms they frequent
* Trade associations or governing bodies they’re part of
* Software tools or platforms they use regularly with built-in communities (like HubSpot, Notion, Xero, etc.)

Please list:
1. The name of the platform/community/event
2. Why this is relevant
3. A link if available

Think like a strategic B2B marketer building an outbound sales playbook. I want high-leverage places that offer insight and access.

  1. Dig into the suggested platforms and join relevant communities

  2. Engage authentically. Provide value before asking for anything

  3. Watch your pipeline diversify beyond cold email

Important: Don't pitch immediately. Spend time understanding the community culture and adding genuine value first.

Why it works:
Your prospects aren't just email addresses. They're REAL people with ambitions, frustrations and dreams of winning big.

They're in communities because they want to grow, learn from peers, solve problems and look good in front of their boss.

When you show up where they're already invested and engaged, you're not interrupting their day - you are part of their network.

Tools Used:

  • ChatGPT (Plus is better for this - $20 per month)
